'I know for a fact': Journalist makes huge claim about Callum Wilson's current injury issues

Eddie Howe spoke about Callum Wilson in his press conference on Friday morning saying that the striker needs a bit more time before he's ready to return to action.

This feels like the umpteenth time his comeback has been pushed back, although in truth it could just be the million different injury setbacks blurring into one at this point.

I have a huge love/hate thing going on with Callum Wilson right now. When he's on the pitch in the black and white stripes I absolutely love him, he's a quality player with a practically unmatched eye for goal, however, those appearances are becoming as rare as hen's teeth as the injury-prone striker hits setback after setback.

Of course we'd love it if he could make a return to action and stay fit while banging in goals every week, who wouldn't? But the fact is Wilson has missed around 36% of games through injury since joining Newcastle (approximate figure given by ChatGPT so it may be slightly off).

Callum Wilson feels he is ready to return to action

At this point, however, it seems as though the club are being extra cautious and making sure to take their time before unleashing Callum Wilson back on the Premier League in a bid to prevent future injuries.

That seems very apparent when you consider what journalist Joel Bland said on X about Wilson on Friday.

"I know for a fact he had told people earlier in the week that's he'd be fine for the weekend👍"

Newcastle will now likely lose Callum Wilson on a free transfer

If that's true then it seems like Wilson feels he's ready to go but the club are holding him back, which is understandable but it's not helping those games played versus games missed statistics.

In truth, Newcastle should have cashed in on Wilson when they had the chance, but now it looks as though we'll lose the £20 million former Bournemouth man for free when his contract expires in the summer.

Although, knowing Eddie Howe, he'll offer him another deal and that will scupper Paul Mitchell's plans to add a new striker to the group.
