Journalist now says what Callum Wilson plans to do this summer with Newcastle United contract set to expire

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has had yet another injury-riddled season on Tyneside which has seriously damaged his chances of being offered a new contract ahead of his current deal expiring this summer.

The former Bournemouth striker has been one of Newcastle's most prolific strikers since he arrived at the club, but his Newcastle career has been held back by injury after injury which has stopped him from putting up the numbers his clear talent is capable of.

Back fully fit, Wilson is hoping to play his part in the final weeks of Newcastle's season as the Magpies look to book their place in the Champions League.

Perhaps more key for Wilson is convincing the club he can still do a job for the club and earn himself another contract extension.

A recent report from journalist Graeme Bailey has suggested, however, that Wilson is prepared to leave Newcastle this summer, telling LeedsUnited.news that the 32-year-old wishes to remain in the Premier League amid interest from Leeds and West Ham.

“Callum Wilson is leaving. I am told he wants to stay in the Premier League, he does have other options around the world, but he would like another go in England.”

Leeds fans have been a bit apprehensive on the idea of signing Wilson given that they already have a striker made out of soggy Weetabix in Patrick Bamford.

Newcastle must sign a striker this summer regardless of what happens with Wilson

We have been saying for a couple of years now that Newcastle need to add another quality striker to the ranks regardless of what happens with Wilson as he can not be relied upon to be fit, but while we can't rely on him, we would be sad to see him go.

Will Osula looks like he has promise but is far from the finished article and unless he's given a run in the side as the season wraps up, it's going to be hard to convince fans that we're in safe hands with Alexander Isak backed up by Osula next season.

Hopefully, the Magpies will bring in another striker whether they offer Callum Wilson an extension or not - even if it looks now that it's unlikely that they will.
