Newcastle United are said to be looking to bring in another striker in the summer as a further contingency after Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade have failed to deliver this season.

Quite how drastic a summer it will be for the £124 million duo in terms of whether they find themselves still at the club next season, we're not sure yet, but it is definitely the case that the Toon are looking for a Plan B.

Craig Hope wrote in his Newcastle Confidential column this week that Newcastle are definitely looking to bring in another striker and went on to name Inter Milan's Pio Esposito as one that Ross Wilson has his eye on.

Now Fabrizio Romano has added a bit more to the story, confirming Newcastle's interest in the 6'3" Italian.

Newcastle are showing signs of intent when it comes to signing Pio Esposito

Fabrizio Romano insists that Inter will be desperate to keep hold of the 20-year-old, as quoted by GOAL, but Premier League clubs are starting to show interest.

"One of the players Inter consider untouchable this summer is certainly Pio Esposito. There has been a lot of talk abroad about Arsenal, but the Gunners haven’t made any concrete moves, beyond scouting various players.

“As far as I know, Newcastle are a club that would be ready to get serious in terms of figures and will sign a striker in the summer: Esposito is one of the names circulating, he is a highly rated player, but Inter have no intention of opening negotiations."

Esposisto won't come cheap by the sounds of things

It sounds like if there's any hope of getting this one done, then it's going to be a costly one for Newcastle, and there's always the risk that Arsenal could come to the table and blow us away.

Esposito has managed eight goal contributions in 24 Serie A appearances, but his output in the Champions League is two goals and two assists from nine appearances. It sounds like he could be another one who turns it on for the big occasion.

Hopefully, that's not the case as we need players who are going to hit the ground running and get us goals in the Premier League. That's where we've been let down the most this season.
