Newcastle United fans witnessed an awful moment on Friday night as Anthony Gordon looked to be in a great deal of pain after picking up a knock during England's win over Albania.

The Newcastle star only joined the fray on 74 minutes but ended up hobbling off the pitch at full time going straight down the tunnel for treatment after spending a bit of time receiving treatment on the Wembley turf.

Anthony Gordon was in the middle of serving a three-match suspension for Newcastle, but obviously, that suspension doesn't apply to international games, so he was able to play a part in Thomas Tuchel's first game as England boss.

The upcoming game against Brentford on 2nd April will be the third and final game Gordon will have to serve on the sidelines, but now worries that he could miss further games through injury have naturally raised their head.

Thomas Tuchel provided further detail on Anthony Gordon's injury

Thankfully, despite the initial worry and the fact that Gordon left the England camp, there have been reports suggesting that the injury, which was to Gordon's hip, is not as bad as first feared and there's strong hope that he won't miss any further games beyond the visit of Brentford next week.

However, Thomas Tuchel did give an update on the injury on Sunday as he told reporters (via Newcastle World) that Gordon was probably in line to play on Monday night had he not picked up his knock.

“He left camp. He has a huge bruise around the hip region and was it so painful he couldn't even walk properly. He needs some time to heal and to get better. That's why he left camp. It’s a shame because he had a good chance to start, and I'm sad that he is now out.

“He was so happy to play and get some minutes for us. He had a red card, then he got sick - he came a bit late into camp - and gets his minutes and gets straightaway injured. I’m sad for him but we cannot change it, and I think he still needs a couple of days rest, so he's with his family now to get the rest and we find other solutions.”

Anthony Gordon is expected to return against Leicester City in two weeks

Tuchel saying that it was a bruise does suggest it will be an easy one for Gordon to recover from with no lasting damage, provided it was just a muscle bruise and not a bone bruise which can take considerably longer to recover from.

Craig Hope's post on X over the weekend suggested that Gordon had a scan on the injury and it wasn't as bad as first feared, so we could see him back in action for Newcastle when the Magpies travel to Leicester City on Monday 7th April.

We're going to need everyone fit and firing to ensure we bag one of those Champions League places.
