Team news: Eddie Howe names his team as Newcastle United take on Sunderland in first Premier League Wear-Tyne derby in nine years
The day has come. Newcastle United meet Sunderland once again in the English top flight after a nine-year absence of the most fierce rivalry in English football. Kick-off at the Stadium of Light is 2 pm with the game also being shown live on Sky Sports.
A win for Newcastle will see the Magpies leap above Sunderland in the league table for the first time this season after the newly-promoted side have shocked everyone with the start they have made to this campaign.
Newcastle's away form still remains a cause for concern, as does the team's recent trend of conceding late goals, but you have to imagine that all of that nonsense goes out of the window for a game like this.
Eddie Howe knows what's at stake, and we're sure Dan Burn has made it abundantly clear to everyone at the club exactly what this fixture means.
Eddie Howe plays it safe with his team selection
We thought Eddie Howe might spring a surprise or two with his team selection, but he's actually played it pretty safe.
There are no surprises at the back with Aaron Ramsdale in goal behind Tino Livramento, Malick Thiaw, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall.
In the middle, Joelinton misses out as expected, which means we've got Bruno Guimaraes leading the team with Sandro Tonali and Lewis Miley alongside him.
Yoane Wissa starts on the bench again
Howe has opted not to start Yoane Wissa, which we aren't really too shocked about, so Nick Woltemade starts with Anthony Gordon on the left.
Anthony Elanga on the right is a bit of a shock; we thought he'd go with Jacob Murphy for this one, but Elanga is starting to grow into the side, so we get it.
Granit Xhaka starts for Sunderland, and there are 10 other players there too, some of whom we've heard of, most of whom we haven't.
