Alan Shearer was a special guest on the Town Moor stage on Saturday as Newcastle United presented the Carabao Cup trophy to the fans.
The former Newcastle number nine got a bit emotional up on the stage as he spoke about losing his dad just a year before the historic cup win.
Shearer gave his The Rest Is Football co-hosts a rundown of the day on Saturday from the sheer number of fans who turned out, to him getting emotional when addressing the fans.
You could just see all over Shearer's face how much he loved being part of the day and how proud his is to finally have seen his beloved Newcastle lift a trophy.
Before they moved on to talking about other things, Micah Richards asked Alan Shearer just why everyone loves football so much in Newcastle.
“They’re just one club city, isn’t it? We just love our football and we’ve been starved of success for so many years.
“I think it was just a relief that we eventually got over the line. And yeah, we love our football.
“It’s a life. It is really, honestly, I don’t think I’ve been anywhere in the country where you have nanas and grandas, mums and dads, young kids and everyone who wears the black and white shirt like the Newcastle people do.
“And I think maybe in Liverpool or maybe in Glasgow for Rangers and Celtic, I don’t know, but it is very, very different and unique in Newcastle.”
As a Newcastle supporter in my forties, I have witnessed so many 'nearly' moments. Watching the club get so close and bottle it has led to a very cynical mind, but it is also part of what drives the passion.
You just want to push the team on that one step further that they haven't been able to take for so long, and I imagine that's a similar story for a lot of fans. The passion is borne out of frustration.
Now we have belief. We've won something, we have proved we can do it, and now it's about believing we can do it again. It's time for a new level of passion.
HOWAY THE LADS!
