Jacob Murphy is one of those Newcastle United players who probably thought he'd never get the chance to lift silverware with the club.

A boyhood Newcastle fan, seeing the Magpies end their 56-year trophy drought would have been enough to make Jacob Murphy a happy man, but to be a part of the team that did it was probably beyond his wildest dreams.

Murphy has had a rollercoaster career during his eight years on Tyneside. Signed by Rafa Benitez for £12 million, the winger has survived a few managerial changes at the club.

Nobody could ever doubt Murphy's work rate in a Newcastle shirt, but plenty have questioned his ability and his output, ourselves included.

Jacob Murphy: Unintentional comic genius

Jacob Murphy's form was very hit-and-miss

A bit like his right-wing counterpart, Miguel Almiron, Murphy is either fantastic or terrible, rarely in between.

Lately, the 30-year-old has been fantastic far more than terrible as he has carved out an excellent partnership with Alexander Isak.

Murphy's antics have always endeared him to Newcastle fans, he's always a great source of comedy, but now he's an integral part of the team, but there were times when his time at the club looked like it would be over, something he doesn't take for granted.

Jacob Murphy never gave up on his Newcastle dream

Speaking during the celebrations on Saturday, Murphy reflected on what a ride it has been at Newcastle (via Newcastle World).

“I think you stop having them dreams at certain points and then suddenly it becomes a reality. There was one point where everyone thought that it was my time to go. I never thought that.

“Here I am on that bus parade, leaping at the back post to nod it down to our superstar striker to put us 2-0 in front at Wembley. It's just an amazing journey and one that my family are proud of, I'm super proud of. It's awesome.”

Murphy clearly always believed in himself and now we're reaping the rewards.
