Newcastle United could move for an absolute bargain this summer as they look to add reinforcements to their centre-forward options.

The Magpies struggled immensely last season with strikers as Callum Wilson's spotty injury record continued to be a burden and Alexander Isak also picked up more than his fair share of knocks.

There were several games when neither striker was available for selection with no third option on the books, meaning wide-man Anthony Gordon had to step up and play through the middle.

This summer it's believed that Callum Wilson could be one of the first-team players sacrificed to the Gods of FFP, despite Eddie Howe's insistence that he wants him to stay.

Is Tammy Abraham worth a punt at £28m? We think so

Tammy Abraham is available for £28m

If Wilson remains, Newcastle still need to find another striker to join the ranks and with centre-forwards always going for a premium, that could be tricky.

However, a ray of hope may just have appeared as AS Roma have, according to The Boot Room, put 26-year-old England forward Tammy Abraham in the shop window for just £28million.

The former Chelsea man missed most of last season with a cruciate ligament injury, only making his return to action in April.

Newcastle should exercise some caution but it does look like a good deal

Whether that injury is the reason for Roma's decision to move him on or if there's something else at play for him to be made available so cheap is anyone's guess, but at sub-£30m it's surely got to be worth a punt by Newcastle?

There are several Premier League sides looking at a move with Tottenham and Aston Villa also in the mix, and although it seems counter-productive to bring in another striker whose legs could explode at any given moment, there's no denying Abraham's quality when he's fit and firing.

Ideally, we'd shift Callum Wilson on and use that money for a move for Abraham while going out and finding another younger striker to back up Abraham and Isak.
