It's a slow start to the day here at NUFC Feed, as I'm sure it has been for many of you after Sunday's Carabao Cup final win. Newcastle United actually won a trophy, it wasn't a dream.
Somehow, it still doesn't feel real, but that's probably the hangover. Having absorbed as much content as I did last night, there's no way this isn't reality.
Newcastle United, to a man, were excellent against Liverpool. Eddie Howe's game plan was perfection and it was executed brilliantly by every player who stepped onto that Wembley turf.
Dan Burn scooped the plaudits for a colossal display at the back and of course, his stunning headed goal that got the Magpies on their way.
However, we have to talk about Tino Livramento, especially in the wake of what we said in the week leading up to the game.
We suggested swapping Tino and Kieran Trippier over, especially with Mo Salah to contend with. We wanted to see more from Tino in the final third, too, we needed to see him crossing with that left foot.
Well, we admit we were wrong. Tino had Mo Salah in his pocket all game, as the stats according to Magpie Media on X prove:
- 100% duels won
- 100% tackles won
- 100% successful dribbles
For the first time EVER, Mo Salah was limited to 0 shots and 0 chances created in a game where he played 90+ mins.
It also didn't escape our notice that it was indeed a left-footed cross from Tino that found the head of Jacob Murphy to nod down for Alexander Isak to power home for Newcastle's second.
Tino, along with Dan Burn and Anthony Gordon, will now link up with the England squad ahead of the two World Cup Qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
We wish them, and all of our internationals the best of luck and hope they come back ready to party!
