As Newcastle United's players gathered to make their walk up the famous steps at Wembley to receive their winner's medals, because, you know, we WON THE CARABAO CUP, a few long-term players were surprised to see a familiar face.

The whole 'it has been decades since Newcastle have won anything' narrative has finally come to an end, but it will be used many times to emphasise the significance of what this Newcastle team achieved on Sunday, but now that it's not a huge monkey on our back, we don't mind seeing it now that the clock has been reset.

Former Newcastle (and Liverpool) striker Andy Carroll got permission from his Bordeaux boss to fly home after their game on Saturday to take his seat at Wembley to watch his beloved Newcastle in the final.

The giant forward made his way over to the Wembley steps where the players were gathered to greet his former colleagues in a touching moment caught on camera by The Sun.

Carroll had actually predicted a 2-1 win for the Magpies in an interview a few days ago with Sky Sports.

There wasn't even a hint of split loyalties for Carroll, who was famously sold to Liverpool for a record £35 million under Mike Ashley. Just another fantastic piece of business from the famous businessman.
