Newcastle United had a game plan to deal with Premier League leaders Liverpool today at Wembley. Liverpool, who have had Newcastle pegged in the Premier League well...

Arne Slot, Steven Gerrard, John Bishop, Jimmy Tarbuck, John, Paul George, Ringo, Cilla Black ... your boys took one hell of a beating!

The scoreline at full time read 1-2 to Newcastle United but in truth, Federico Chiesa's 94th minute was a pure fluke. Liverpool didn't do anything to deserve that goal to make it look like a close run contest. In truth it was all Newcastle United from the kick off.

Eddie Howe became the first English manager to hoist a domestic trophy since Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth in 2008, and yet, people still doubt whether he's the man to deliver glory to the Magpies. Well, it's time to sit down and soak it in. Eddie Howe knows what he's doing.

We chuffing did it!

Big Dan Burn has had one hell of a week!

Newcastle United have put an end to 70 years without a trophy. We can finally go into a televised cup game without that stat being wheeled out seconds into the broadcast starting.

There could have been no more of a fitting goalscorer to send Newcastle on their way today than Dan Burn who had been a pain in the arse for Liverpool at corners all game before finally heading beyond Caoimhin Kelleher on the stroke of half time.

Having just been called up for England for the first time at 32, as well as being a lifelong Newcastle United fan, there couldn't have been a better story to write than Dan Burn scoring at Wembley.

Alexander Isak got his goal eventually

Alexander Isak doubled Newcastle's lead, but not before seeing a goal chalked off for a very controversial offside. The commentators were adamant it was the right decision as Bruno Guimaraes was well offside and deemed to be obstructing the 'keeper when the initial shot came in, but the fact that Kelleher made the save that pushed the ball into Isak's path suggests that his view was not obstructed.

It didn't matter, though, as just two minutes later, Alexander Isak had the ball in the back of the net again and there was no denying him this time.

Every man in black and white played their part today, and former Toon target Chiesa's consolation goal did little to take the shine off the performance.

I'm away to continue to drink responsibly as I'm sure many of you are too.
