Newcastle United and Manchester United are locked in negotiations for the early release of Dan Ashworth from his contract.

The former sporting director is currently on gardening leave after he submitted a request to leave Newcastle. While it's no secret where he's heading next, there's still the matter of the compensation between Newcastle and Manchester United before Dan Ashworth can take up his new role.

The Magpies have opened negotiations at around the £20million mark which if agreed would allow Ashworth to take up his position at Old Trafford in the summer, otherwise they will have to wait until 2026.

Man United are refusing to pay the fee which would shatter the record paid for a staff member, which is currently held by Newcastle who paid around £3million for ... Dan Ashworth.

"You will never work in a place like this again. It’s brilliant. Fact. And you’ll never have another boss like me, someone who’s basically a chilled-out entertainer."

Newcastle are considering slapping a transfer ban on Manchester United

There will no doubt be a compromise reached at some stage when it comes to the figure, but one thing Newcastle are looking to put in place, according to The Express is a ban on Manchester United signing any Newcastle players for a fixed amount of time.

That wouldn't be a bad move by Newcastle as it stops Ashworth from poaching players from us whom he can exploit his pre-existing relationships with which would likely make negotiations a lot smoother.

Not that there are many players we'd like to see come our way from Old Trafford, but it's not mentioned whether the ban would be a two-way street.

The longer this drags on the funnier it is to us

It is being reported that so far, talks have been amicable between Darren Eales and Man United, but the clubs are still very far off an agreement, and that's just great news for us.

We get nothing out of it really other than smug satisfaction. At the end of the day, the club are still paying a wage for Ashworth who is currently getting paid for nothing, but the longer this drags on the more it unsettles Jim Ratcliffe and his new regime.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's search for a successor continues and remains unaffected by the current situation. Basically, we're winning.
