Jacob Murphy was the main man for Newcastle United on Monday night as the Magpies beat Leicester City at the King Power Stadium thanks to three first-half goals.

The grinning right-wing menace got his second brace of the season with the other also coming against Leicester City.

Last season we were constantly praising Murphy for being a jester and making us laugh regularly, but this season we're actually praising his on-field contributions.

That being said, he can still make us chuckle almost at will. His gaping maw is enough to make me laugh.

Jacob Murphy was surprised he wasn't hooked earlier

In his post-match interview with Australian channel Optus Sport, Murphy was on good form and even managed to aim a funny dig at Eddie Howe at the end of his interview.

When asked about his elusive hat trick, Murphy said he was surprised he stayed on the pitch as long as he did after scoring his second goal.

"That's the second time I think I might have got a brace for Newcastle. I thought the gaffer might have hooked me earlier because he loves to bring someone off if they've got two goals early on."

In the same interview, Murphy admitted that he likes being underestimated and going under the radar as he backs himself to do what's needed of him, and he doesn't care what other people think.

It's a strong mindset from Murph, and one that has probably built up from years of being criticised non-stop, but all that is behind him now.

We have King Eddie, Sir Jason and Murphy the Jester at the court of St James'. It's filling out nicely.
