Liverpool looking to gazump Newcastle United in race for 28-year-old Colombian striker this summer
Liverpool seem to get more joy from ruining Newcastle United's transfer plans than they do from winning actual football matches these days.
The Reds were a highly destructive force in Newcastle's summer with the endless speculation surrounding Alexander Isak, which eventually resulted in our star striker getting his move to Anfield.
Not content with taking our star player, Liverpool also swooped in and took the player we had eyed to replace Isak when they beat us to the signing of Hugo Ekitike.
Now, a report from Portugal suggests that Liverpool are ready to challenge Newcastle for the signing of another striker this summer.
Newcastle and Liverpool set to battle it out for Luis Suarez (not that one)
Portuguese outlet A Bola claims that both Newcastle and Liverpool are looking at Sporting CP's striker, Luis Suarez (not that one), and they could be prepared to make a move in the off-season.
The 28-year-old Colombian has scored 33 goals already this season, averaging a goal every 85 minutes after being brought in to replace Viktor Gyokeres.
His scoring exploits have alerted the Premier League, and even though Suarez is contracted to Sporting until 2030, which could make it tricky for either side to pull him away from the Portuguese side.
Will Luis Suarez (not that one)'s age put Newcastle off?
Luis Suarez (not that one) will be involved in the World Cup with Colombia, and if he continues his goal-scoring efforts on that stage, then his price will only soar even higher, and it's unlikely to be a low figure already given his contract situation.
His age does make this one a bit difficult to believe for us, knowing how Ross Wilson's aim is to bring the average age of the side down, but with a strike rate like his, surely we can't afford to be picky about him being the wrong side of our cut-off point.
It would be like turning down Harry Kane because of his age. He's still scoring for fun, and well, our forwards certainly aren't.
