Lewis Miley comeback date eyed as Newcastle United midfielder continues long recovery from dead leg
Newcastle United have had to battle on without one of its most consistent players for the last nine games after Lewis Miley picked up a dead leg in the Champions League game against PSG.
The 19-year-old was one of Newcastle's most consistently good performers after being asked to play out of position to cover for Tino Livramento at right-back.
Miley picked up a knock in the Champions League draw with Paris Saint-Germain and despite it being reported as a dead leg, the academy graduate has been missing for nine games and is set to miss a couple more on top of that.
Last night, Lewis Miley received the North East Football Writers Association Young Player of the Year award, and while at the awards bash, he spoke to The Chronicle.
Lewis Miley is targeting Barcelona for his comeback game
Miley revealed he has a game in mind for when he thinks he'll return to action, and it will come before the international break later this month.
“It’s getting there now (the injury), I got a knock to my leg and it’s caused some muscle damage. It’s been very frustrating but hopefully I am back out there soon and doing what I love.
“I’ll hopefully be back before the international break and hopefully back for a couple of games before that. I am hoping for the Barcelona away game, It will be a very good game to be back for.
“I was in really good form when I was playing, it’s been frustrating with the time when it came - but I need to be positive, keep looking forward and look forward to the games when I’m back.”
We'd love to have Lewis Miley in the side when Barcelona come to St James' Park
It's insane how much we miss Miley when he's not in the side, considering he's only 19 and still has a lot of growing in the game to do.
It's both a testament to how good he is and a damning indictment of the current squad's performances that we're relying on a kid to deliver good football.
At least we don't have to wait too much longer to have him back in contention, although we'd definitely prefer to have him available for both legs of the Champions League round of 16.
