Newcastle United will face either Chelsea or Barcelona in the round of 16 in the Champions League after knocking out Qarabag in the play-off last night.

The draw will take place on Friday, and Newcastle will find out whether they get a trip to Spain or have to endure playing Chelsea three times in a week.

There are obviously no easy games in the Champions League, but things are certainly cranking up a notch for Newcastle now.

It does feel like, however, there are a lot of people backing Newcastle to be a surprise package in the competition. Eddie Howe sounded very confident in his post-match presser last night and Craig Hope also believes that Newcastle could beat Barcelona over two legs.

Ally McCoist believes Newcastle can surprise a few people in the next round

Echoing those sentiments is Ally McCoist, who said on talkSPORT that nobody will be relishing coming to St James' Park to take on Newcastle.

"I tell you what, you wouldn't fancy up there? I don't care who you are, but I don't care if you're Barcelona. I don't care if you're Chelsea. You don't fancy going up there, I'm telling you."

The home leg of the tie will be key no matter who we play, especially as that will be the first game. If we can build up a lead to take into the second leg, we can control the game away from home.

Jason Cundy embarrasses himself again and Ally McCoist calls him out

In that same video from talkSPORT, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist called out Jason Cundy for a shocking take on Anthony Gordon, which we absolutely appreciate. Anyone who digs out Jason Cundy is alright in my book. It almost redeemed Alan Brazil for some of his poor takes over the years.

Cundy was trying to make the case that Anthony Gordon isn't an elite player, but then backs him to do well for England as one of the favourites to win the World Cup. His entire thesis was based on comparing his value to that of Bukayo Saka.

We're not sure who is in charge of hiring for talkSPORT, but they must have the easiest job in the world "Do you have a voice? Yeah? You're hired".
