Newcastle United are one of many clubs keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.

The Argentine defender has impressed at the back for Bournemouth since he arrived at the Vitality Stadium in 2022 and now the 28-year-old looks set to leave the south coast club in the summer when his contract expires.

There have been reports that Manchester United were keen to sign the defender this summer, but a report in Sports Boom has suggested that the Red Devils are no longer interested and that Newcastle have pushed their way to the front of the queue.

There's strong Premier League interest and several Serie A sides are also keen on Senesi, which could be a wrinkle in Newcastle's plans.

Marcos Senesi will be a free agent this summer

Newcastle will face plenty of competition if they do try to sign Marcos Senesi

Everton, Aston Villa, and Italian clubs Napoli, Roma, Juventus, and AC Milan are all keen, but it's thought Newcastle are currently in pole position.

Andoni Iraola wants to keep Senesi at Bournemouth, given his importance to the team. Senesi has missed just one Premier League game this season through suspension, but it's thought that his mind is made up and he wants a big move this summer.

Another potential issue Newcastle could face is being unable to offer European football next season, which several of our competitors will be able to do.

We aren't going to turn our noses up at defensive links

If this move happens, it wouldn't be the first time Newcastle moved to snap up a Cherries defender upon their contract expiring after scooping up Lloyd Kelly two years ago.

Obviously, that one didn't pan out so well with the left-back being punted to Juventus on loan in the following transfer window, where he remains to this day despite a rough start to life in Italy.

Hopefully, if Newcastle do try to make this one happen, Marcos Senesi proves to be a better fit at Newcastle than Kelly was. With our defensive record this season, we're certainly not going to turn our noses up at any links to Premier League-proven defenders.
