Eddie Howe promises to 'get into them' when Manchester United come to St James' Park on Wednesday
Newcastle United will be looking to halt a poor run of form when they face Manchester United in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Man United come to St James' Park with renewed confidence since the arrival of boyhood Newcastle fan Michael Carrick in the dugout.
It's not the ideal time for Newcastle to be facing a team who are absolutely brimming with confidence, but if Newcastle were to pull off the win tomorrow, it would be a tremendous boost to the Geordies' confidence.
In his press conference on Tuesday morning, Eddie Howe was reminded of the pre-Man United team talk that was included in the Amazon documentary and asked if he'd be giving a similar talk tomorrow.
Eddie Howe wants his players to go out and attack Man United tomorrow
Howe admitted that he always asks for that kind of effort from his team.
"Our intention in every game is to get into them, be a proactive team rather than a reactive team. Attack them.
"They have tweaked things tactically; they have a really good atmosphere there. You can see an upturn in their general performance; they have some really good players. It is a chance for us to rediscover our best form at home."
Intensity can no longer be our identity
Whether our lads have the energy to go up against Manchester United with the intensity they did on that day is doubtful.
It's clear that the schedule this season is draining the squad, and the whole 'intensity is our identity' idea has been parked for now.
Still, if the crowd can whip up an atmosphere worthy of the occasion and spur the lads on, it might just give them that little bit extra. But they have to respond, because if the game goes flat, the crowd goes with it, and that's when we start seeing the problems.
