Fabian Schar keeps his lips zipped after Andy Carroll takes aim at former Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce

Fabian Schar has been a key figure in Newcastle United's progression under Eddie Howe and has been an almost ever-present figure under the former Bournemouth boss.

Rewind just a few months before Howe's arrival, though, and you'd possibly have forgotten that Schar was still even a Newcastle player.

For whatever reason, Schar had been frozen out under Steve Bruce. Another casualty of the biggest grifter in football.

Steve Bruce almost destroyed the career of Sean Longstaff and was well on the way to doing the same for the beautiful Swiss.

After Fabi pinged a 55-yard effort goalward on Monday night only to see it bounce back off the bar and be tucked home by the on-rushing Jacob Murphy, many people couldn't believe what they had just seen.

Posting an image of the celebrations in which Murphy had jumped on the back of Schar on his Instagram, Fabian Schar had a brilliant comment from former Newcastle number nine Andy Carroll.

"And Brucey benched you 😬"

Fabian Schar is staying classy, San Diego. For now!

Naturally, Carroll's comments got a fair bit of attention and let's just say you'd be hard-pressed to find anything positive aimed towards our former gaffer.

However, Fabi played an absolute blinder by simply replying with a zipped-lips emoji.

We're sure there will come a time when Schar will speak out about the Baron of Bacon, but while he's still playing, he's probably best served keeping quiet.
