Newcastle United took another step towards Champions League qualification at St James' Park last night by beating Brentford 2-1.

Alexander Isak moved to 20 Premier League goals for the season, 24 in all competitions, with a fairly simple tap-in right on the stroke of half time, while Sandro Tonali cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo's equaliser in stunning fashion.

Harvey Barnes also had the ball in the net about a minute before Alexander Isak after nodding home from close range.

The goal was rightly ruled out for offside as Barnes was ahead of the ball when Isak dinked the ball to him.

What Harvey Barnes shouted at Alexander Isak after scoring last night

Isak had done all the hard work, skipping through the Brentford defence and bringing the 'keeper off his line, but instead of burying it, he played it to Barnes who knew instantly that his goal was going to be chalked off.

Thanks to our former comrade Liam Brusby's lipreading skills, he wrote for Geordie Boot Boys just what Barnes said to Isak and it turns out it's exactly what we were all shouting at the time, too.

"Why didn't you finish?"

Alexander Isal: Too sporting for his own good?

It wasn't the only time in the game that Isak took an extra touch rather than going for a finish, and nor were those incidents isolated to just this game.

There are definitely times when Isak seems to over-think or even over-engineer chances and tries too much rather than just firing the ball into the net which we all know he is more than capable of doing.

We're not expecting him to just shoot on sight every time, but he definitely needs to be more decisive in front of goal. I mean, nobody's perfect, I suppose. Perhaps this is just his way of giving the opposition a chance. What a nice guy.
