Recent reports have linked Newcastle United with an interest in Barcelona rising star Marc Casado.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is starting to make waves in La Liga, attracting interest from around Europe with Newcastle said to be one of several clubs keen to try and lure Casado away from Barcelona.

Liverpool and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest, but the fact remains that any club would likely face an uphill battle trying to Casado away from Barcelona as he's starting to break into the first team.

Mundo Deportivo in Spain (via Sport Witness) have picked up and reported on Newcastle's interest, lending some legitimacy to the claims.

However, their report goes on to state how difficult it would be for Newcastle to land the Barca star.

Even if they agreed a fee with Barcelona, it would be nigh-on impossible for Newcastle to convince the player to make the move according to the report.

It's not often Sport Witness will run a story saying a transfer is unlikely to happen, so when even they can't spin the story into something clickable, you know you're wasting your time.

We're not sure how much Newcastle are looking into a defensive midfielder anyway, especially as it's becoming clearer that both Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali perform best in that position.

A right winger, striker, right-centre-back and goalkeeper all appear to be much higher priorities.

It's always nice to think we can steal players from Barcelona but we've yet to see any evidence that it's possible.
