Newcastle United are expected to be busy in the January transfer window in some way or another.
The pressure is on Paul Mitchell to make amends for the disaster that was the summer transfer window and he'll feel he has a point to prove.
Unfortunately for Mitchell, PSR is still very much a thing and the sporting director is going to have to move cleverly if he's to bring in new additions.
The feeling is that were Newcastle to make a big signing in January that would mean they'll have to sell in the summer to balance the books.
This makes a move for Bryan Mbeumo a tricky one to pull off with the Newcastle fans keen to see the Cameroon international added to the squad.
Anthony Gordon has been shifted to the right wing for now but that's seen as a temporary solution to a very long-term issue. Newcastle have needed a quality winger for the right side of the pitch for a while now and Brentford's Mbeumo is seen as the perfect fit by a lot of fans, and indeed Eddie Howe.
Brentford are likely to ask for £50 million from interested parties, which should be doable by the Magpies, but again, would likely mean players will have to be moved on in the summer.
So the big question is, would Mbuemo be worth it? Well, former Newcastle United striker Andy Cole believes he would be as he told Newcastle World he has all the right attributes.
“He’s a player that’s already stepped up from the Championship to the Premier League with Brentford and he doesn’t look out of place. If he does have the opportunity to move to that next level, then he won’t let anybody down.
“He’s a handful. He’s strong, quick, aggressive, scores goals and creates chances, so what more can you ask for? He’s going to do just that.”
