Last season Newcastle United beat Arsenal at St James' Park via a controversial goal that had the Gunner raging for months, this year the scoreline was the same and while there were no question marks over the actual goal, the scorer likely caused a few tears in North London.
All summer it was reported that Arsenal coveted Alexander Isak and their fans had even convinced themselves that Isak would be an Arsenal player come the start of the season.
That obviously never happened, but Mikel Arteta is said to still be a huge admirer of Newcastle's Swedish superstar and are expected to try again next year to bring the player Eddie Howe dubbed as 'outstanding' to The Emirates.
For now though, Arsenal fans have to live with the fact that Isak cost them points at the weekend.
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Tim Sherwood was speaking to Premier League Productions at the weekend and he dropped the nugget that he believes Isak should be at Arsenal.
“An outstanding header from a player who should be in an Arsenal shirt in my opinion, a great striker, he’s exactly what they need. He not only can play as a nine, he can play on the shoulder and scored different types of goals. He can join in, he’s flexible, he can bring others into play. He’s exactly what Arsenal need, but very difficult to take him away from Newcastle.”
What's a former Spurs player doing saying Arsenal should have such top players? Leave it out, Sherwood!
We still aren't convinced that Isak would leave Newcastle for Arsenal, but the Gunners do have previous of forking out over £100 million if needed, and that's what it would take to land Isak.
Eddie Howe is unlikely to ratify any sale of Isak unless the offer is literally too good to turn down. He wouldn't entertain any bids for Isak in the summer and his position is unlikely to soften as the season goes on.
Of course, if Isak himself starts pushing for a move that changes the narrative, but as long as Newcastle can continue to ride this revival and get back into the Champions League race and go on a good cup run, we think he'll stick around.
