Newcastle United have potentially been handed a reality check in their latest pursuit of a right winger to succeed Miguel Almiron.
Not for the first time this year, a player has now come out and suggested a move to Newcastle would be a backwards step in their career.
Fikayo Tomori was the first to do so in the summer when it was reported that Newcastle were interested in the AC Milan star and that felt like a slap in the face.
It has now happened again, and to be honest, this one is a bit easier to take as, well, he's got a point.
Until Newcastle are consistently qualifying for the Champions League and are in the mix for trophies every season, the fact is that players aren't going to see us as a big move, especially players who are already at clubs in that position.
Which is why Newcastle believing they could lure £350,000-a-week star Leroy Sane away from Bayern Munich always seemed a bit weird to us, given that our top earners don't even break the £200k-a-week barrier.
Now a report in SportsBild (via Sport Witness) has suggested that Sane feels that a move to a club in the 'category' or Newcastle United is 'not an option'.
The reality is, right now, Newcastle are a step down from the likes of Bayern Munich, and the wage issue always had this move as a non-starter in our eyes, but that being said, when you find out that's how a player feels about your club, it does sting.
So hopefully we don't waste our time on Leroy Sane as it's clearly going to be a fruitless endeavor and there are plenty of players out there who could do the job for a lot less.
Thankfully it's unlikely that anybody thought for one second that we were going to sign Leroy Sane so we can all go about our day as normal.
