'Here we go': Newcastle United beat Real Madrid to signing of Spanish wonderkid - Fabrizio Romano

Newcastle United have reportedly made their first summer signing already, months before the transfer window opens.

After three windows in which Newcastle were pretty stagnant in the transfer market, the Magpies are getting a jump on things this time around having already secured the signing of one player before the window opens.

Newcastle have been chasing Malaga star Antonio Cordero for a while now but faced strong competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The 18-year-old will become a free agent in June and has held discussions with several clubs including Newcastle, but after his family visited the club, the Magpies were confident that he'd choose the move to the Premier League side.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, that's exactly what the young winger has done with the transfer journalist handing out his trademark 'Here we go' on X confirming the deal.

"EXCL: Newcastle have completed deal to sign Spanish 18 year old talent Antonio Cordero from Malaga, here we go!

"Announcement set to take place for Cordero to join #NUFC project.

"Barça and Real Madrid were both keen on signing Cordero; he picked Newcastle."

The Spain u19 international is unlikely to be anywhere near the first team next season with a loan the most likely course of action, but he may get to make an appearance or two in pre-season so that Eddie Howe can get a closer look at him.

It was suspected a few weeks ago that if Newcastle were to win the race for Cordero, that they would agree to loan him back to Malaga, which is a strong possibility still.

Even though it's just adding another youngster to the ranks, it's good to see that not only can we get business done, but we can attract players over Real Madrid and Barcelona. Spanish players at that. That's not to be overlooked here.
