Newcastle United as a whole have not had the best of luck when it comes to injuries this season but Alexander Isak is one player really struggling.
When Alexander Isak signed for Newcastle he was almost immediately placed on the long-term injury list, but when he made his comeback he really started to show what he was capable of.
Going into this season I had confidently stated that Isak would be behind only Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot. And were it not for Newcastle's injuries playing havoc with their form, and of course Isak's multiple spells on the sidelines, it would have been a safe bet as his goals per game ratio is outstanding.
Unfortunately, Isak limped off the field before half time yesterday and is now facing a spell out with yet another groin injury. Something Ben Dinnery has pointed out on X as being his fourth since October.
With such a recurring problem, the club will definitely be assessing the pros and cons of putting Isak through surgery, and of course debating whether it would be something that needs doing right away like they had to with Joelinton, or if he can wait until the end of the season.
Right now we're not sure how bad the current injury is and how long it will keep him out for, but the fact that this is happening so regularly is a huge cause for concern.
Newcastle's failure to add to the attacking ranks in this transfer window is poised to bite them on the rear with Isak out and Callum Wilson just coming back from an absence. That once again leaves a not fully fit striker on the pitch with no backup on the bench,
The transfer deadline is tomorrow night at 11pm, so there is still time, but the financial situation Newcastle find themselves in, combined with the fact that decent goalscorers are at a premium, it's very unlikely Newcastle will be able to do anything about the situation.
Fingers crossed Isak's scans come back with good news.
