Newcastle United's hopes of signing 23-year-old winger from Ligue 1 Champions not looking good - journalist
Yesterday we reported that Newcastle United were keen on signing Paris Saint-Germain's South Korean right-winger Kang-in Lee.
Newcastle were said to be joined by the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City were also looking into a move for the 23-year-old who has shone since his move to the Parc des Princes in 2023.
Kang-in Lee has managed six goals and two assists in 16 Ligue 1 games this season and is seen as an important player for Luis Enrique's side.
And therein lies the problem.
PSG are unwilling to sanction a move for Kang-in Lee
Journalist Graeme Bailey has now told The Boot Room that his sources say that PSG are unwilling to part with Kang-in Lee this month.
He has a contract at the Ligue 1 champions until 2028 and have no designs on letting such an important player leave this month.
This comes off the back of the fact that PSV have said a similar thing about another Newcastle target, Johan Bakayoko.
It's a familiar story for Newcastle United fans this January
Newcastle's transfer targets seem to be slipping through their grasp at a rapid rate already, but that's the nature of the game, we suppose.
In fairness, we never really expected Newcastle to address the right-wing problem in this window. It always felt like too big of an ask for the club to find the level of player they need in a window that's notoriously tricky to deal in, especially with PSR throttling our spending power.
Although if the rumours that Miguel Almiron is Charlotte-bound, then we may need to find someone who can cover Jacob Murphy for the remainder of the season.
