The EFL have announced the Team of the Round for the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg games based on the WhoScored? ratings and it's no shock that Newcastle United are heavily represented.
On Tuesday night, Newcastle put in a stunning dual performance to see off Arsenal in their own back yard to take a 2-0 lead into the second leg next month.
Newcastle attacked brilliantly for the first hour, giving themselves a two-goal cushion before Eddie Howe changed things up just past the hour mark with a triple substitution and reverting to a 5-5-0 formation designed to keep the Gunners at bay.
It worked like a charm with Arsenal unable to find a way through the black and white wall.
Last night, Tottenham eked out a 1-0 victory over Liverpool to take a slender lead to Anfield next month, and while all four teams involved had at least one player in the WhoScored? Team of the Round, Newcastle lead the way as reported on the official EFL website.
Five Newcastle players scored high enough to earn their spot in the team with Sven Botman, in only his second game back after a nine-month layoff, grabbed a spot with a score of 7.61.
"On his second appearance since his return from injury, Sven Botman was superb in Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Arsenal on Tuesday night. Indeed, the Dutchman won seven aerial duels and made eight clearances to help the Magpies to a first-leg advantage and Botman to a WhoScored.com rating of 7.61."
Sandro Tonali's 7.60 earned him a spot next to Declan Rice who got score of 7.71 - we're not sure how, but okay.
"Stepping in for Bruno Guimaraes at the base of the Newcastle midfield, Sandro Tonali didn’t disappoint as evidenced by a WhoScored.com rating of 7.60.
"Tonali chipped in with two clearances, including one off the line, one tackle, and one interception, which resulted in a solid showing."
The forward line was all Newcastle, with Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon rounding out the team.
"Right-wing: Jacob Murphy (Newcastle) – 7.07 rating
"Jacob Murphy kicks off an all-Newcastle frontline having earned a WhoScored.com rating of 7.07 in midweek.
"While Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon have been getting all the plaudits, Murphy has been quietly going about his business as he provided his fourth assist from his last five appearances, that coming from one of two key passes in North London."
"Striker: Alexander Isak (Newcastle) – 7.86 rating
"One of the Premier League’s in-form players, Alexander Isak netted his 10th goal from his last nine outings to fire Newcastle ahead at Arsenal on Tuesday night.
"Isak got the better of David Raya with one of two shots, while additional returns of two key passes and two dribbles saw the Swede land a WhoScored.com rating of 7.86."
"Left-wing: Anthony Gordon (Newcastle) – 7.42 rating
"Completing the XI with a WhoScored.com rating of 7.42 is Anthony Gordon, who has now been directly involved in a goal in each of his last seven appearances.
"His second-half goal came from one of two shots at the Emirates as Gordon, like Murphy and Isak, maintained his excellent form."
