Newcastle United stunned Arsenal on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win at the Emirates in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg on the back of a rock-solid defensive display.
Eddie Howe's side now take a two-goal cushion into the second leg at St James' Park in February. It's far from 'job done' but it's certainly a very good start.
There has even been talk of Mikel Arteta throwing in the towel and fielding a weaker side in the second leg with the Premier League and Champions League deemed more important.
However, we highly doubt that will be the case after fielding his strongest XI in the first leg.
Former co-owner, Amanda Staveley took to Instagram to congratulate her old side and even used her nickname, Wor Mandy, as a hashtag to sign it off.
"A huge well done to the @nufc team on their brilliant result in the first leg of the Carabao Cup! I’ve no doubt they will go on to do just as well in the next match. Huge congratulations to Eddie and the entire squad 🖤🤍 #wormandy"
Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi left Newcastle United in the summer with it later being suggested they were pushed out with Darren Eales feeling their overbearing nature was preventing him from getting his job done.
Whatever the reality is there, the fact remains, Newcastle United fans lost their biggest connection to the Newcastle hierarchy, as the husband and wife pair were very active in the community and on social media.
They were also very close with Eddie Howe and amid all the tension between him and Paul Mitchell in the summer, it felt like Eddie had lost two big allies.
Thankfully, everything seems to be back on track now, although the transfer window may be causing a bit of friction between Howe and Mitchell, but we'll see how that plays out.
We still miss Mandy and Merhdad and we will forever be grateful for the huge part they played in giving us our club back, and it's great to see them still cheering the lads on.
