Newcastle United's most beloved football shirt has made a comeback as Adidas re-release the famous grandad collar shirt from the 1995-97 seasons.

It was one of the first things fans wondered about when Newcastle United and Adidas rekindled their partnership - will we get to see the old kits again?

The current season's shirt certainly harks back to the Adidas kits of old, but many fans were expecting the new design to be very reminiscent of the first Adidas kit from the 90's. The one that popularised wearing football shirts as casual wear.

Well, it turns out we didn't need a homage because Adidas has remade that shirt in all its glory and as of today it is now on sale to Mags and Mags+ members before hitting general sale tomorrow.

Nothing like a staggering asking price to take the wind out of your sails

The excitement last week, when it was announced, was off the charts, especially among fans whose 1995 kit has been obliterated by thirty years of wear and tear.

However, that excitement took a big hit this morning when it was revealed that the shirt will cost a staggering £90. More than a current season replica shirt.

We get that we don't have to buy one, but come on. That's an insane price for a retro shirt that isn't even being done as a limited run.

Clearly the club aren't taking any notice of the #StopExploitingLoyalty movement

They will obviously still sell very well, the nostalgia is strong with this one, but at a time when the common man is already struggling financially, and the likes of the Newcastle United Supporters Trust are teaming up with the Football Supporters Association and fans up and down the country for the #StopExploitingLoyalty movement, it seems a bit short-sighted and very greedy.

One fan even pointed out on X that the quality of the 'beer mat' sponsor is way worse than it was 30 years ago. Granted that was going off a couple of images, but if that is the case, then this really does feel like a swing and a miss.

Or am I just bitter because I'm too fat and too poor to get one? A little from column A, a little from column B.
