Isaac Hayden's time at Newcastle United looks set to finally come to an end after the recipient of one of Mike Ashley's special contracts has struggled to find a way out for years.
Since Eddie Howe came in over three years ago, he has tried to offload Isaac Hayden with very little success.
A series of loan moves, some more successful than others, has helped to keep the former Arsenal man in some kind of shape, but after failing to secure a move away in the summer, and still being called up to represent Jamaica, he now has to find a way out of Newcastle for the sake of his international career.
Now, The Telegraph's Mike McGrath has posted an update on X that suggests that he may finally have found a new club.
McGrath believes that Hayden is Fratton Park-bound to link up with Portsmouth where he will find a familiar face in former Mag Matt Ritchie.
"Newcastle are in talks with Portsmouth over a deal for Isaac Hayden to move to Fratton Park. Other Championship clubs also interested in the midfielder."
While other Championship clubs are keen, it could be that Hayden is already heading south after posting a photo from a plane window to his Instagram reels yesterday, as reported by Newcastle World.
There had been rumblings earlier this month that Newcastle were willing to terminate Hayden's contract and forego a transfer fee to help him move on.
It's all speculation right now, but it does look like we have some movement towards the exit door as is the plan for Newcastle in January.
And he may not be the only one on their travels to speak to a new club with a first-team player spotted at the airport in Paris today. Stay tuned.
