On Friday morning Eddie Howe confirmed that Sven Botman would need to undergo a small operation on his knee which will see him ruled out for at least eight weeks.

The rumour doing the rounds before Eddie Howe's press conference was that Botman's season was over due to an ongoing knee issue.

Sven Botman vehemently denied that story, however, posting in the replies to notorious ITK account Geordie Josh "Stop selling bullsh*t".

About 12 hours later, Eddie Howe told the media the full story, and while eight weeks is the expected timeline, Botman's recovery hasn't gone well so far this season, so it might actually best for the Dutch defender if he keeps off the pitch for the remainder of the season.

Sven Botman has issued a defiant message to fans

That doesn't seem like an option for Botman who has posted a defiant message to fans via his Instagram stories today. The story is just white text on a black background which reads:

“Frustrated times for me and the club as I have to proceed a small surgery.

“I'll give my 100% as always to get back ASAP. The team needs the full support to bring the cup to Newcastle and finish strong in the league. See you soon mags.”

Sven Botman recovered from ACL surgery right on time

Sven Botman recovered from his ACL surgery really quickly compared to Jamaal Lascelles, who we'd not be surprised if we don't see at all this season.

But it didn't take long after his return from that nightmare before he picked up a knock on his other knee which has resulted in this latest setback.

Fingers crossed he makes a full and quick recovery and does return this season to help Newcastle seal a Champions League spot.
