Will Osula has had a strange season at Newcastle United with the Danish Under-21 international's future up in the air.

The 22-year-old almost left the Magpies in the summer, but a deadline-day move to Eintracht Frankfurt fell through when Newcastle pulled the plug on the deal.

It proved to be a good move after Yoane Wissa picked up a knee injury on international duty. Will Osula had a good run in the side and scored a couple of goals early in the season, but then he picked up an injury, which kept him out of action for a long time.

Even when out of contention, Osula's future was called into question, but since returning from injury, he's been called upon regularly by Eddie Howe. He was rewarded with a place in the starting lineup in the Champions League game against Qarabag, where he looked completely out of his depth, once again casting a shadow over his future.

Will Osula scored a sensational 90th-minute goal against Manchester United

At St James' Park tonight, Eddie Howe opted to bring on Will Osula late in the game rather than giving Yoane Wissa a runout. It caused a few eyebrows to be raised, but then he hit a moment of magic, scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute with a superb curling effort.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Osula said he'd been working on those finishes in training the day before, and he was thrilled to see his hard work pay off.

"That was, like, the best feeling ever. I was so happy for that. You know, when I came on, I just prayed I was going to score, make something happen, and thank God that happened.

"I was practising that in the finish yesterday in training. Any chance cut in and finish it. So I'm happy the hard work paid off."

Will Osula has shown flashes of genius at Newcastle United, but this was next level

We've seen teasers of what Will Osula can do, which hints at why he was brought into the club, and why Eddie Howe seems keen to keep hold of him.

Even amid the talk of him leaving the club, Eddie Howe was clear that he'd only sanction a loan exit.

Let's hope this is the massive confidence boost that will allow the youngster to produce more consistent results because so far, Osula's lasting impression at Newcastle is going to be one of pure chaos and unpredictability.
