Hilarious report links 'world-class' Newcastle United star with move to Barcelona
We do love a funny transfer story here at NUFCFEED, and sometimes, even though we don't believe a single word of them, we like to share them with you to give you a little giggle.
Newcastle United's top stars being linked with moves to other clubs isn't anything new, and not every story is as unbelievable as we'd sometimes like to think they are, but quite often, there will be little hints about the veracity of a story.
Sometimes it's as simple as seeing the source of the story, and we'll know whether or not to believe it. Or in this case, it's the absence of a named source that really tipped us off.
The story comes via Football365, who only refer to their source as 'reports from Spain' and provide no link back to where they got it from. That, to us, screams that this story is from bullhonkey merchants 'Fichajes', and they know that if they link back to it, everyone will dismiss it off hand, so they've tried to bury the lede. Well, you don't fool us, Football365, we see through your shenanigans.
Hansi Flick has told Deco to go out and buy this 'world-class' Newcastle player
So, who is the 'world-class' player Barcelona want? Is it Bruno Guimaraes? Nope! Sandro Tonali? Nah. Anthony Gordon, perhaps? Not him, either. It is none other than Nick Woltemade.
According to this report, Hansi Flick has instructed Deco to lift Nick Woltemade out of Newcastle to lead the attack at Barcelona next season.
What's funny is that this isn't actually that much of a stretch when you consider the options at Barcelona's disposal right now, with Robert Lewandowski drawing a state pension and Ferran Torres struggling for form too.
Is Nick Woltemade to Barcelona that ridiculous of an idea? Well, no, but yeah.
Nick Woltemade has talent; we all know this, we've seen it with our own eyes, but he's just devoid of all confidence right now.
Whether he's 'world-class' is certainly up for debate. We do believe he could be, but he's nowhere near that level right now.
But honestly, with Barcelona's draw, is Hansi Flick really coveting a striker who can't score to be the answer to his problems? We doubt it.
If the story had come from a reputable source, we may be slightly worried, but just saying 'reports from Spain' stinks of Fichajes, and I wouldn't believe them if they told me St James' Park was in Newcastle.
