Newcastle United are likely going to have to dip into the transfer market for at least one new right-back in the summer with Kieran Trippier's contract set to expire at the end of this season.

The 35-year-old is still making a strong case for a contract extension, but it has yet to be forthcoming.

Meanwhile, Tino Livramento is hotly tipped to move to Manchester City in the summer, and after putting his own contract talks on hold, we can't help but feel that a move is inevitable.

It makes sense, then, that Newcastle are already casting their net to find a new right-back to bring into the club ahead of next season.

Oscar Mingueza is a man in demand

Newcastle sent scouts to Spain to watch Oscar Mingueza in action at the weekend

Newcastle have long held an interest in Celta Vigo full-back Oscar Mingueza whose contract at the La Liga side is up at the end of the season.

Aston Villa and Everton are also keen on the 26-year-old former Barcelona man, and TEAMtalk are suggesting that the race for his signature will heat up in the coming weeks with interest from all around Europe.

Newcastle sent scouts to Girona to watch him in action over the weekend as they continue to monitor the Spaniard's form.

Oscar Mingueza has been on Newcastle's radar for a while

Newcastle have been linked with Mingueza for a while now, so it definitely feels like there's some legitimacy to these reports.

He sounds more like a replacement for Trippier than Livramento, as we imagine we'll be looking to bring in a younger player with plenty of potential to replace Tino, if it comes to that.

However, if we can scoop up Mingueza on a free transfer in the summer, that wouldn't be the worst piece of business we've ever done.
