Fabian Schar speaks about 'frightening' experience as Newcastle United defender caught in Middle East conflict
Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar was in the Middle East, undergoing rehabilitation, when the latest conflict broke out.
The Toon favourite has managed to get home safely, but has spoken about his terrifying ordeal.
Fabian Schar has been recovering from an ankle ligament injury, which he picked up in the 4-3 win over Leeds United in January.
The 34-year-old was in the Middle East over the weekend to undergo more rehabilitation when the USA and Israel attacked Iran, which responded by targeting USA bases around the region.

Fabian Schar shared his experience on Instagram while confirming that he got out of the area safely.
"I've just had a few of my most terrifying days having unfortunately witnessed first-hand what's happening in the Middle East.
"I was there as part of my rehabilitation programme and I'm glad I found a way to get home safely.
"But what we experienced there, and what's happening right now, is truly frightening.
"I hope that help gets to all of the people who need it in those affected areas."
Could Newcastle United be affected in other ways if the conflict continues to escalate and spread throughout the Middle East?
The latest conflict in the region has affected surrounding countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Israel.
With Newcastle's connections to Saudi Arabia, it remains to be seen if/how the club will be affected as things continue to escalate.
We're just glad that Fabi got back home safely and is on the road to recovery.
