Newcastle United have missed out on another summer transfer target as 18-year-old wonderkid opts to remain in Germany.
Newcastle were among many clubs eyeing up a move for Schalke 04's young midfielder Assan Ouedraogo who it was believed would cost just £12million to acquire this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano and Sky Sports Deutschland, the fee may even end up being even less than that as Ouedraogo has chosen his next destination.
It looks like RB Leipzig have won the race for the midfielder once compared to Chelsea's Michael Essien.
Bayern Munich apparently walked away from negotiations leaving the door open for RB Leipzig to swoop in and steal the deal by activating Ouedraogo's €10million (£8.4million) release clause.
"Assane Ouédraogo to RB Leipzig, here we go! Deal signed and sealed today with talented 18 year old midfielder.
"RB Leipzig trigger €10m release clause after Bayern left the negotiations last week.
"Five year deal signed, announcement to follow today as @SkySportDE called."
Newcastle's interest was only rumoured so we're not sure how serious the club were about ever making a move for Oueadrogo.
However, if his release clause was under £10million and he really had the potential he's said to have, it's no wonder we were linked.
It might be worth keeping an eye on how he does at Leipzig and seeing if he's worth revisiting in a year or two as we know Leipzig don't mind selling.
