Newcastle United grabbed a 1-0 win over Arsenal at St James' Park for the second season in a row on Saturday.
While this win was much more straightforward than last season's controversial win, it seems there's been some fallout in the Arsenal camp after the defeat.
We're very aware that trying to give credit to Newcastle for this is absurd, but the timing lines up so we're going with it anyway.
It has been announced today that Arsenal's director of football Edu is set to leave the London club.
Edu has been in the Arsenal boardroom since 2019 and was instrumental in giving Mikel Arteta his shot at management. He's also overseen some big transfers for the Gunners ... although there was one he couldn't pull off and that came around to bit him in the arse on Saturday.
Arsenal have been linked with Alexander Isak for months and their fans were absolutely convinced they were going to get their man this summer.
Obviously that didn't happen and just to rub salt into the wounds, it was Isak's goal that have Newcastle all three points on Saturday.
The Daily Mail reports that talks have been ongoing with Edu and the club over a new deal and that this announcement has come as a huge shock.
The reasons for Edu's resignation are unclear at this time but it will be a huge blow to Arsenal losing one of the highest regarded sporting directors in the game.
So while the real reasons haven't been released let's just believe that it was the fact that the one player Arsenal coveted all summer just confined them to defeat at the weekend.
