Newcastle United are definitely stepping up their efforts to find a new striker after Callum Wilson's injury issues have kept him away from the team all season.

The Magpies were already short on striking options and while the club did sign a centre-forward in the summer, Will Osula was never meant to slot straight into the first-team to be called upon to lead the line in the absence of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

Another top-quality striker is a must for Newcastle now with Callum Wilson highly unlikely to be at the club next season.

Newcastle have their eye on a few targets but there is one that has had us particularly excited since the summer, and it seems that the club are doing their due diligence ahead of a likely bid.

Newcastle have sent scouts to watch Jonathan David

Newcastle scouts watched Jonathan David bag his 12th goal of the season

Lille striker Jonathan David is in the final year of his contract at the Ligue 1 side and has already signalled his intentions to move on in the summer putting many top clubs such as Juventus and Newcastle on high alert.

Now The Boot Room are reporting that Chelsea and Newcastle flew scouts over to France recently to watch the Canadian striker in action against Lyon in which he scored Lille's only goal in a 1-1 draw.

That's now his seventh Ligue 1 goal in as many starts for Lille this season and his 12 goal overall in 17 appearances in all competitions.

Jonathan David's agent is extracting the urine if we're being honest

Aside from the competition from some of Europe's top clubs, one big issue Newcastle are likely to have with trying to sign Jonathan David will be his agent's exorbitant fee for brokering a deal.

David's agent is set to reap him a cool €10 million (£8.4 million) commission fee which is absolutely criminal.

Jonathan David's wage demands, which are said to be around £100,000-a-week, would see him earn around half that fee in a year.

That being said, we're still on Team Give Him What He Wants. We just want him at Newcastle.
