Journalist shares what Bruno Guimaraes thinks about leaving Newcastle United as PL rivals made enquiry
When Bruno Guimaraes joined Newcastle United in 2022, the Brazilian midfielder was quite honest about where he saw his career going.
While Bruno stated he wanted to write himself into the history books at Newcastle by bringing them a trophy, there was also an understanding, fueled by the player himself, that he ultimately saw himself playing for Barcelona.
Since then, though, Bruno has fallen completely in love with Newcastle, the club, the city and the people, and it feels like it would take a team of wild horses to drag him away from Tyneside.
He's already achieved he goal he set for himself. Bruno Guimaraes is a legend on Tyneside; he's the man who captained the side that lifted the club's first silverware in 56 years. He could, by rights, walk away citing 'job done', you know, like Alexander Isak, who will remain nameless.
Bruno Guimares had no interest in joining another club this summer
Bruno hasn't done that, and while the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid haven't come knocking, Bruno has had the opportunity to move to Manchester City and play under Pep Guardiola, where trophies feel almost guaranteed, but not only is he still at Newcastle, that is largely down to Bruno's own choice.
Football Insider's Peter O'Rourke believes that Bruno Guimaraes had no intention of talking to Manchester City when they made an enquiry this summer.
“Bruno has been a player that’s been on the radar at Man City for a while.
“It was an enquiry in the summer rather than anything firm or official on bids or talks or anything like that.
“Guimaraes indicated that he was happy at Newcastle and Newcastle were definitely not interested in selling him and that remains the plan right now as well.
“He’s the captain at Newcastle which shows how important a role he plays at St James’ Park and he’s under contract there until 2028.
“Newcastle had a lot to focus on in the summer with the Alexander Isak transfer saga, and they don’t want to lose any more of their star players.”
It will be a sad day when Bruno Guimaraes leaves Newcastle United, however it happens
We're always a bit sceptical when a story surfaces on Football Insider, but the fact that Bruno is still at Newcastle, smiling from ear to ear and showing his love of the Toon at any given opportunity, does suggest there's more than a kernel of truth here.
There will come a time when Guimaraes leaves Newcastle, that is inevitable, but whether it's as a transfer or after he retires having led the team to several trophies, who knows?
One thing feels almost certain, though, is that he will go out on a blaze of glory, not a river of poop like Alexander Isak, who we won't mention.
