Newcastle United suffered their second successive Champions League defeat in back-to-back games against Borussia Dortmund.

It wasn't the best of nights for Geordie fans at the Signal Iduna Stadium as Newcastle fell to a 2-0 defeat.

The scoreline probably flattered the hosts as it was a much closer game than the 2-0 suggests, however, the fact remains that Newcastle have now suffered two defeats in the Champions League and are now bottom of Group F.

Newcastle have struggled for top performances in the ECL other than the game against PSG

For some reason, Newcastle just don't seem "at it" in the Champions League. It could just be big game nerves, something the side will have to work on after it buckled them at Wembley last year too. Whatever it is, it's something to focus on.

That being said, as an overall team performance it wasn't horrible, we were mostly let down by individual errors and bad luck.

Or as co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi posted on X at full-time - it was fine margins.

"Not the result we wanted, but the boys gave it their all. Fine margins were the difference. Thank you to all of you who travelled to support us. Safe travels back."

We must now take out our frustrations on Bournemouth on Saturday

That may look like hollow platitudes, but he's not exactly wrong. Their first goal; every second ball just fell for them like they had it under a spell and Joelinton's missed chance is something you'd see him bury nine times out of 10.

It just wasn't our night. We pick ourselves up and we move on.

We take it out on Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
