Dan Burn is excited for what fans will experience when Newcastle take on Wolves at SJP

Nothing quite gets the Geordie goosebumps standing on end like when Going Home - The Theme From Local Hero kicks in.

Now synonymous with Newcastle United, Mark Knopfler's sax-heavy tune is getting the modern treatment in the name of charity.

The club announced this morning that St James' Park will host the first-ever play of the re-recorded track, which will feature the talents of some of the world's most recognisable musicians.

Mark Knopfler managed to recruit some local heroes to perform, well, Local Hero

Mark Knopfler will of course be involved along with local stars Sting and Sam Fender. The pride that Sam Fender will be feeling must be off the charts, with the Geordie songsmith never shy about his love of Newcastle United.

The re-recorded track is to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America and features the talents of some of Rock and Roll's greatest talents including Brian May, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Ronnie Wood and many, many more.

Match goers in attendance on Saturday 2nd March as Newcastle take on Wolves will get to hear the tune's debut as the new version will be used as the players take to the pitch. Afterwards, you will be able to get your hands on it in digital and physical formats.

Will it live up to the original?

Dan Burn is certainly excited telling NUFC.co.uk:

"Local Hero has been a song that I've listened to all my life and means so much to me on so many levels, whether as a fan or player.

"When I was young my dad used to play Local Hero at breakfast and it instantly made me think of St. James' Park and the excitement of going to games. Whenever I hear the song it has so many memories, from seeing huge wins and European nights under Sir Bobby Robson to now, being able to walk out to the iconic anthem is a 'pinch me' moment every time. I know what this song means to people in the region and everybody will be buzzing to hear the version."

It's going to be hard to top the original, for sure, it's been a part of the Newcastle United culture for so many years, but given how many legends have lent their talents to it, as well as the great cause it's raising money for, it's sure to do well, especially in this part of the world.
