'Unless': Les Ferdinand may have given Alexander Isak ideas as far back as March as Liverpool transfer saga rumbles on
Newcastle United have rejected an initial bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak, with the Reds reportedly working on a second proposal.
Liverpool's initial bid was worth a reported £120 million, some £30 million shy of Newcastle's valuation of the 25-year-old striker.
However, former Newcastle United striker Les Ferdinand has shared what he believes would need to happen for the deal to go through.
It's not as simple as Liverpool coughing up £150 million, according to the former Toon favourite.
Les Ferdinand may have inspired Alexander Isak
Ferdinand spoke about Isak to Liverpool back in March to GOAL, and it seems like Isak may have been paying attention.
"If they lose Isak, they go two or three levels back, because where do you find another striker like him? What they have to do is convince him this club is going in the right direction, and I'm sure they're doing that on a regular basis.
"Everyone's talking about him every week, this club's interested or that club's interested. That's in some way a compliment to him and the club that he's been able to perform. They signed him on a big contract and he's still got a few years left with them, so they're under no pressure to sell unless he throws his toys out the pram."
Alexander Isak can't have any toys left in his pram right now
It's safe to say that Isak has indeed thrown his toys out of the pram, feigning an injury to get out of going on the club's pre-season tour and now opting to train in Spain out of the way of prying eyes.
Isak is clearly trying to force a move as he knows of Liverpool's interest and intentions, with several outlets claiming he's already ironed out personal terms with Arne Slot's side.
Whatever happens next is going to be uncomfortable for everybody connected with Newcastle as it seems there's no way the Magpies come out of this as winners, even if Isak remains on Tyneside.
