Eddie Howe's stay at home Mags abandon plans for mid-season training camp amid safety fears
Newcastle United have binned plans to go away on a warm-weather training camp this month due to the conflict in the Middle East.
Any Newcastle players not involved with this month's internationals were due to go to Dubai with the club for a warm-weather training camp.
It's something that has proved to be a success in the past, acting like a bit of a soft reset for the squad.
As reported in the Daily Mail, the team were going to fly out after the derby with Sunderland on Sunday, 22nd March, but the club has decided to cancel plans as the region is just a bit unstable right now.
Fabian Schar can attest that Dubai isn't the place to be right now
Fabian Schar was in Dubai when the war kicked off, and he was caught up in a scary evacuation before making it home safely.
I guess Donald Trump just wasn't thinking about anyone but himself when he kicked off this war. Typical.
This isn't the only travel plan Newcastle have scrapped as they've had a rethink of their pre-season arrangements too.
Newcastle will stay in Europe for the summer
Craig Hope reported a couple of weeks ago that Newcastle were looking to stay closer to home this summer after a Far East tour last year and the USA Summer Series the year before that.
Newcastle were in talks to go to the USA again and would have faced Sunderland, Wrexham and Liverpool in a pre-season tournament, but the club has decided to stay in Europe instead and Leeds United will take Newcastle's spot.
The club will now decide whether to base their pre-season in Austria, Portugal or Spain.
