Report claims Newcastle United are open to selling Tino Livramento this summer as Manchester City circle
Manchester City are said to have a huge interest in signing Tino Livramento from Newcastle United in the summer.
Recent reports have varied from claiming that the deal is practically done to others claiming that there has been no approach from the title chasers.
What we do know is that Tino Livramento put contract talks with Newcastle on hold until the end of the season, which is a bit of a red flag for Toon fans.
At the time, Tino was doing extremely well for Newcastle, so it may just have been a case of Tino boxing clever and seeing how his season pans out, so he'd be in a stronger position to negotiate at the end of the season.
Newcastle are reportedly increasingly open to the sale of Tino Livramento
More likely, though, is that the 23-year-old wanted to assess his options at the end of the campaign.
Ross Wilson stated that a new contract for Tino Livramento was a top priority when he signed on as sporting director, and we're sure that remains the case for him and the club.
However, TEAMtalk have today claimed that Newcastle would contemplate a sale this summer if the price was right for the England full-back. The understanding is that Newcastle will use the sale of Tino Livramento to bolster their finances, thus making their position more secure to keep hold of other top stars.
Selling one star in a bid to keep the others makes no sense
There is certainly logic there, but it's very flawed. Not least because Newcastle aren't under the same financial pressures now as they were when they had to let Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh leave.
Also, the logic of selling one star player in a bid to keep the others doesn't make sense either. Selling one star player is only likely to unsettle the others. Big players want to play with big players and if a club starts leaking their top assets, it's going to make the others question the club's ambition.
We're still not convinced that Newcastle will hang on to Tino this summer, but we don't think he'll go without a fight.
