Newcastle United took the £125 million they received for Alexander Isak and reinvested it in two strikers in the form of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.

For various reasons, it hasn't clicked for either summer acquisition at Newcastle this season. Nick Woltemade showed early promise, going on a fantastic scoring run before seemingly losing all confidence.

The German striker has since found himself pulled into the midfield, and more recently, has had to sit on the bench while the likes of Anthony Gordon and Will Osula are preferred in attack.

Yoane Wissa got off to the worst possible start after pushing all summer for a move to Newcastle, picking up a bad injury on international duty before he'd even trained with his new club. The lack of training time available this season due to the fixture list has meant that Wissa is nowhere near 100% match fit, and he too is having to watch from the sidelines.

Victor Osimhen is the 'perfect fit' for Newcastle

Didi Hamann says Victor Osimhen would be the 'perfect fit' for Newcastle

We still truly believe that next season, both players will show huge improvements after having a full pre-season schedule under their belts, but there is still a lot of talk of Newcastle cutting their losses, particularly with Nick Woltemade. And if that proves to be the case, Dietmar Hamann has identified to Boyle Sports (via The Chronicle) who Newcastle should bring in to replace him.

“I think Victor Osimhen is one of the top five centre forwards in Europe. I couldn't believe that he ended up in Turkey.

"Obviously, Napoli paid an awful lot of money for him, but I'm very surprised that none of the English teams signed him, because they all struggled for centre forwards in the summer.

“They tried for players like Benjamin Sesko, and other players who have come in are only just starting to adapt now because they obviously needed some time.

“I think he's an outstanding player and I think he's probably the reason why Galatasaray is doing well in the league and also in the Champions League. I love watching him and I think, if he were to play in the Premier League, there are teams he would make much better.

“Obviously, Liverpool have got two players there now, so he won't end up there, but he's an outstanding player. He's got pace, he's got power, he can finish, a wonderful player.

“If Newcastle do sell Nick Woltemade, he could be the perfect fit.”

Why are Premier League clubs not looking at Victor Osimhen?

Newcastle have been linked with Victor Osimhen since the takeover, but there's never been an official approach made, and there must be a reason for that. There must also be a reason why no other Premier League club has made the move for him, either.

He's undoubtedly talented and a top-quality goal scorer, but scouts must be seeing something they don't like. It can't just be about finances; there must be something else we're not seeing.

There could be something with his attitude, or Premier League scouts simply don't think his style would translate to success in the English top flight. We'll see what happens in the summer and whether English clubs start to look his way once again, and whether Newcastle will be amongst them.
