Newcastle United could fund January spending spree on back of Tuesday's nostalgic announcement
Nostalgia is a powerful thing. It's hardly surprising that most Hollywood movies these days heavily lean on nods to movies from the past. It sells.
Newcastle United know this so well, and when they rejoined with Adidas two years ago, we knew that the floodgates of nostalgia would be opened.
We have already seen the return of the iconic grandad collared shirt, and the first away kit from the new venture was a solid callback to perhaps the most iconic away kit of all time.
Now, Adidas and Newcastle United have done it again and have advertised their new range in superb fashion.
Prepare to go back in time with NUFC
The Magpies are relaunching the training gear made famous during the Kevin Keegan days. The maroon, black and white attire that fans adopted as casual wear in the 90s is coming back.
On January 13th, fans will be able to travel back thirty years (yes, thirty!) and pick up a slice of history.
Fans of a certain age, such as myself, are likely to swallow this up like Pez pellets, which will put a hefty chunk of money into the club's coffers.
The announcement has gone down a storm online
The replies to the fantastic announcement video on X were almost all positive and along the lines of fearing for their credit card balance.
The video intercuts footage from the Keegan days of fans turning up to Maiden Castle in Durham to watch the lads train with grainy footage of the current players and staff kitted out in the gear.
We're in love with the video. We're in love with the gear. We are selling kidneys if anyone's interested.
