Newcastle United could turn to Eddie Howe favourite to solve striker crisis if Tottenham Hotspur are relegated
The Newcastle United transfer rumours keep on coming today, and they don't get any more believable either.
Football Insider's Peter O'Rourke has had his Weetabix this morning as he's come up with another transfer story involving Newcastle United.
The Magpies spent £124 million on firepower in the summer, bringing in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, but neither has really delivered the goals their hefty price tags demanded.
It's therefore expected that Newcastle may once again be on the hunt for a striker in the summer, and Football Insider are reporting that they may only need look as far as relegation-threatened Tottenham.
Newcastle are once again linked with Dominic Solanke
If Spurs fail to beat the drop, they will likely have to have a fire sale to balance the books, and one player who could be heading for the exit is Dominic Solanke.
Solanke has been linked with Newcastle many times before, and with Eddie Howe at the helm, who managed Solanke at Bournemouth, those links remain an easy one to manufacture a story about.
Spurs would rather keep hold of the England striker as he's one of their in-form players since returning from injury, but relegation could make his position untenable as they look to recoup losses.
Would Dominic Solanke be a good signing for Newcastle?
Dominic Solanke could be a good fit for Eddie Howe
Once again, we draw attention to the story's source, but if Newcastle were able to work out a good deal for the 28-year-old, he may not be a bad bet.
Although we forked out £55 million for a 28-year-old in the summer, and look where that got us, so we'd definitely be wary of repeating that mistake.
We doubt there's much to the story anyway, but it's one that has got us thinking, similar to the Leandro Trossard rumour. However, our thoughts are still that both Woltemade and Wissa will be much more prolific next season after a full pre-season training camp under their belts.
