Report suggests Newcastle United are monitoring Leandro Trossard ahead of potential summer swoop
As we head towards the end of the season, we're seeing more and more transfer stories coming to the surface with varying degrees of believability.
We're definitely going to file this one into the 'doubtful' category along with so many others, but there is an air of intrigue about it.
According to Sports Boom, Newcastle United are closely monitoring the 'restricted minutes' of Arsenal midfielder Leandro Trossard with a view to a summer bid.
The Belgian is a proven entity in the Premier League but is finding it hard to break into the starting lineup at high-flying Arsenal, and it's now thought he could be open to a move at the end of the season.
Newcastle have a passive interest in Leandro Trossard
Aston Villa are thought to be at the front of the queue, especially as they brace themselves for a potential Morgan Rogers exit, but Newcastle's name was also mentioned almost as a throwaway.
It does beg the question, though. Is Trossard the type of player we should be looking at this summer? Premier League proven, Champions League experience, reliable.
Or do we want to stay clear of anyone over the age of 30? That would have been my personal feeling a few weeks ago, but I'm leaning more towards bringing in the right players to instantly improve the squad and we can build for the future when we're stable again.
What are your thoughts on Leandro Trossard to Newcastle?
Should Newcastle be looking to add more experience ot the midfield?
Arsenal are likely to want up to £25 million for Trossard, which seems a bit steep for a 31-year-old they're not even using.
Perhaps not Trossard per se, but should Newcastle be looking for an elder statesman to come into the midfield to add a bit more experience in there? Or do we have enough with Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes?
We don't see Newcastle actually making a move for Trossard in the summer, but if it were to happen, how would you feel about the Belgian coming to the Toon?
