For the second time in his career Javier Manquillo has been signed by Rafa Benitez after the Spanish gaffer signed him for Newcastle United and now Celta Vigo.

Manquillo was on the shortlist of players to be sold in the summer but the fact he was carrying an injury meant he stuck around at the club.

The 29-year-old has now returned back to his native Spain to once again play in La Liga.

Manquillo made 110 appearances for Newcastle

The right-back has been a great servant for Newcastle since arriving in 2017 from Atletico Madrid (via a stint at Sunderland) and has made 110 appearances for the club in that time.

We are unsure what the fee involved was for this deal, but we can bet it's not going to kick-start a spending spree for the Magpies.

Manquillo hasn't made a single competitive appearance for Newcastle this season so will have a lot of rust to shake off if he's to make an impression for Rafa.

Could Manquillo be the first of a few to leave in January?

The sale of Manquillo does open up a squad space for Eddie Howe but whether he gets the opportunity to fill it remains to be seen.

Rumours are still swirling that another right-back could be his way out of the Toon with the Kieran Trippier story not going away despite attempts from some journalists to play it down.

With 10 days left of the transfer window, Newcastle fans are in for a bumpy ride.
